OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Allie Long scored in extra time to lift the Portland Thorns past FC Kansas City 3-2 on Saturday and into the National Women's Soccer League final.
Portland will face the Western New York Flash next Saturday for the championship at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.
Long's goal in the 102nd minute broke a long stalemate after Tiffany Weimer tied the game at 64 minutes.
Tobin Heath also scored for the Thorns in the 32nd minute. Canada's women's national team star Christine Sinclair of Burnaby, B.C., failed to convert on six shots.
Kansas City led 2-0 after Erika Tymrak scored in the 11th and Melissa Henderson added another in the 24th.
Carli Lloyd scored two goals for Western New York as the Flash defeated Sky Blue FC 2-0 at Sahlen's Stadium on Saturday night.
Lloyd opened the scoring at 32:19 off a pass from Katherine Reynolds. The 31-year-old put the game away with her second goal in the last minute of stoppage time.
Flash goalkeeper Adrianna Franch made three saves while her Sky Blue FC counterpart Brittany Cameron stopped four shots.
