The Nanaimo Peewee A Clippers started their weekend off rough, but finished strong, winning two of their three contests. On Friday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre, they lost 8-5 to the Cowichan Valley Capitals. Liam Moody led Nanaimo with two goals while Chase Heslop had a goal and two assists. Aaron Marsh and Ethan Jones added a goal and an assist each.
Cowichan responded with three goals from Lucianno Wilson, two from Jojo Tanaka-Campbell and singles from Corson Hopwo, Cody Shepheard and Cody Stockton. On Saturday, Heslop and Parkin scored two goals each to lead the Clippers to a 5-1 win over the Victoria Racquet Club at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. Riley Gannon got the other for the home team while Sean Ramsay scored for Victoria.
In Sunday's weekend finale in Campbell River, the Clippers won 7-5. Heslop and Marsh had two goals each while Jones, Josh Zary, Justin Sexton also scored. Jalen Price had four goals for Campbell River and Owen Parker had the other.
Peewee B Clippers fall to Sooke in league opener
The Nanaimo Peewee B Clippers fell 4-1 to Sooke in their Vancouver Island Hockey Association opener on Saturday at Frank Crane Arena.
Matthew Clark led Sooke with two goals while Craig Phipps and Brayden Friesen added singles while Tristan Moore picked up the win in net.
Jett Ferraro had the Clippers only goal while Owen Bray was in net.
The Clippers trailed 1-0 midway through the game but ran into penalty trouble in the final frame as Sooke put it away with two power play goals in the final 20 minutes.
Up next for Nanaimo is a home date with Victoria on Nov. 2 at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
Tier 2 Clippers beat Peninsula, Juan de Fuca
The Nanaimo Smythe Ratcliffe Debt Advisors Midget Tier 2 Clippers rolled up two big home wins on the weekend.
On Saturday at Frank Crane Arena, they crushed the Peninsula Tier 3 Eagles 7-3, getting goals from seven different players - Jake Mickelson, Shane Rogers, Tyler Sexton, Sam Brydges, Wade Dupuis, Nick Hotchkiss and Brandon Parker. Noah Dalziel, Roshan Rikhi and Russell Dallinger scored for Peninsula.
On Sunday at the NIC, they shut out the Juan De Fuca Tier 3 Grizzlies 5-0, led by Kyle May's two-goal effort. Rogers Mickelson and Parker also scored.
