The Nanaimo Clippers scored twice in the first period and twice again in the second to defeat the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 4-1 in B.C. Hockey League play at Frank Crane Arena on Friday night.
Scoring for the Clippers (4-2-0-0) were Scott Prier, Sheldon Rempal, Bo Brauer and Mason Mitchell.
The lone goal for Salmon Arm (2-4-0-1) came from forward Landon Smith, who buried a feed from Mitchell Ferguson and Thomas Plese past winning goaltender Jayson Argue 5:11 into the third period.
Argue got the win and made 30 saves for Nanaimo.
Rempal's unassisted goal 15:13 into the first period was the winner for Nanaimo.
Brendan Taylor had two assists for the Clippers and helpers also came from Taylor Grobowski and Mitchell, who completed a Gordie Howe hat trick after a first-period fight with Silverbacks defender Brett Fagerheim.
