Voters around British Columbia have elected the Fairwinds Golf Club as the best on Vancouver Island in a recent poll conducted at bcliving.ca.
Some 10,000 votes were cast from around the province to decide the 2013 recipients of the B.C.'s Best People's Choice Awards.
The 18-hole course in Nanoose Bay was chosen ahead of runners up Bear Mountain Golf Resort & Spa (No. 2) and High Pacific Golf Course, both in Victoria.
"It is always great to receive recognition," said Fairwinds Golf Club director Ward Stouffer in a press release. "It's even more special when it comes from the people who enjoy our product. Fairwinds congratulates all winners and runners up in each category."
Fairwinds was designed as a 71-par course by Les Furber.
The BC's Best People's Choice Awards included some 25 categories and the Nanaimo area was thoroughly represented on the list of Vancouver Island's best businesses.
In addition to Fairwinds, Nanaimo restaurant Hilltop Bistro was chosen as best restaurant on the Island. Nanaimo's Flying Fish was chosen as the best home decor store, ahead of Home Sense and Capital Iron.
The Island's best gardening store was decided to be Art Knapp Plantland while the best camp site was won by Rathtrevor Provincial Park in Parksville.
Nanaimo's Hey Beautiful was elected the best salon on the Island. Downtown clothier Quintessential was chosen best clothing store.
Other Nanaimo businesses made appearances, like Gabriel's Cafe, a runner up for best breakfast/brunch and best cafe.
