The Barsby Bulldogs bounced back in a big way on Friday from their loss to AAA Varsity Lord Tweedsmuir the previous week.
Unfortunately for the G.W. Graham Grizzlies of Chiliwack, they got to feel their wrath in a 61-0 blowout in exhibition the match up of B.C. High School Football AA varsity teams.
Despite the big number on the scoreboard, it was the defence that led the way, intercepting five Grizzlies passes, with cornerback North Rainey accounting for two of them, taking one 90 yards for a touchdown. Josh Goldston scored another major for the defence on a fumble recovery. Cole Virtanen led Barsby with nine tackles while Ty Carson had eight.
Quarterbacks Rainey and Brody Taylor finished a combined 12-for-20 for 186 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.
They also ground it out with their rushing attack, racking up 157 yards on the ground for four touchdowns and two twopoint conversions. Senior half back Kyle Vollet was their top rusher with 42 yards on five touches while fullback Trentyn Anderson had two touchdowns on three carries and 31 yards. Brandon Parker and Taylor also scored on the ground.
Up next for Barsby is their regular season opener against Argyle Pipers in North Vancouver on Friday at 1 p.m. The JV Bulldogs, meanwhile, host the Nanaimo District Secondary School JV Islanders at Barsby on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
