Snuneymuxw veterans will be honoured by the Royal Canadian Legion at a ceremony tonight.
Commemorative pins will be presented to veterans or their survivors in recognition of the contribution aboriginal veterans have made during war and peace-keeping activities.
The event will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Army Cadets Centre at 709 Nanaimo Lake Rd.
The ceremony will consist of a prayer, a presentation to veterans and a dinner.
Officials were available to give further details about honourees on Tuesday, however five Snuneymuxw names are listed among hundreds on the online Aboriginal Veterans Honour List, including Jack White, who served in the Second World War.
According to the Government of Canada, approximately 7,000 Canadian First Nations people served in three wars.
A number of Métis and Inuit people who served are not included in that number. Some veterans groups estimate their addition brings the number of aboriginal veterans up to over 12,000.
