WINNIPEG - Bob Axworthy beat the buzzer.
The political adviser and basketball coach finished filing his paperwork just before Wednesday evening's deadline to enter the Manitoba Liberal leadership race.
Axworthy announced his intention to run last week, but had to go back and complete his nomination requirements, which included signatures from all regions of the province and $2,500 in cash or new memberships.
Axworthy was the party's organizer for the 2011 provincial election when the Liberals were reduced to just one legislature seat
He joins business owner Dougald Lamont and lawyer Rana Bohkari in the race for the leadership, which will be decided Oct. 26.
Axworthy had to sit out the party's first leadership debate last week, but will be allowed to take part in the second and final showdown next week.
