The last cruise ship of the season is expected to berth in Nanaimo this morning.
The cruise ship terminal will play host to Celebrity Century and her estimated 1,800 passengers from 7 a.m. to approximately 6 p.m. Seven ships were expected to visit Nanaimo this year but one had to cancel, ostensibly due to engine troubles.
"There's a lot of issues with the air emissions situation that the cruise carriers are facing, they're doing a lot of strategy as far as putting in scrubbers to reduce the emissions," said Nanaimo Port Authority president Bernie Dumas.
