What started out as a friendly sibling rivalry has turned into an overwhelming fundraiser for a good cause.
Deputy Chief Cam Ferguson of Cowichan Bay Fire Rescue and his sister Cathy King are both raising funds for the upcoming Nanaimo Safeway Walk for Muscular Dystrophy, which takes place on Sept. 28.
To raise funds, Ferguson put out an email and social media plea to announce that if he raised $1,000 he would walk in full firefighter gear, $1,500 for wearing the breathing apparatus and eventually stated that if he hit $2,000, he would complete the entire five-kilometre walk breathing only the air from the canisters on his back.
When King saw the challenge, she was up to do the same, walking in full firefighter gear, the only difference is she is not a firefighter.
The event will take place at Maffeo Sutton Park beginning at noon.
