A 37-year-old cyclist is dead after a collision with a transit bus in Nanaimo on Monday.
The man was riding west along Albert Street approaching Pine Street at about 4:45 p.m. when his bike left the curb and struck the passenger side of an oncoming bus. He was taken by ambulance with severe internal and head injuries to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, where he died shortly after 11 p.m. Witnesses told Nanaimo RCMP the man wore no helmet and was on the wrong side of the road.
Police officers helped three bus passengers get to their destinations and a representative from Nanaimo Regional Transit escorted the bus driver from the scene. No charges were laid.
