ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Natuashish Band Council Chief Simeon Tshakapesh says he's giving authorities two weeks to respond to the gas sniffing problem in his community.
Tshakapesh met with Premier Kathy Dunderdale of Newfoundland and Labrador on Wednesday in St. John's and says while he's pleased with the meeting, he's frustrated that little is being done and action needs to be taken.
He says if he doesn't see any real progress in two weeks, he'll return to the legislature with others to make sure the community's voices are heard.
The province's child and youth advocate says she cannot accept that children and young people in Natuashish are not being protected by those legislated to do so.
Carol Chafe says she wants to know from all government departments and community leaders what it will take to ensure the safety of children and young people in the Labrador community of Natuashish.
She says the time to respond to is now, before a critical injury or death of a child occurs because of solvent abuse.
