CALGARY - A report on a union's Facebook website says a tentative agreement has been reached to end a strike by about 8,500 staff at Real Canadian Superstore and Real Canadian Liquorstore outlets in Alberta.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 401 report says an agreement was reached overnight after around-the-clock bargaining in Calgary between union negotiators and bargainers from the parent company, Loblaw.
The deal comes about a day after workers set up picket lines at stores across the province early Sunday morning, leaving managers to run the outlets.
A key issue in the dispute had been the number of work hours staff were getting.
Details of the agreement have not been released, but the UFCW says the contract will provide significant improvements over and above the company’s last offer.
The union is recommending acceptance of the package with ratification votes set to begin Tuesday, although picket lines will remain up for the time being.
