Re: 'Consultation period back on yet again' (Daily News, July 23) Yet again the merry-go-round goes on and the Snuneymuxw chief continues to show his ability to play our mayor and council just like a banjo at a hillbilly hoedown.
In all of the discourse about the Colliery dams, I've yet to see any specifics beyond removal and renaturalization or possible reconstruction, a huge waste of our tax dollars. I'm reminded of Donald Rumsfeld when he said: "If you can't solve a problem, make it bigger."
There's been a lot of rhetoric about "reassessing options."
What options and at what cost? "Open and constructive dialogue"? How about starting with the word "liability."
How can anyone contradict the pronouncement of "unsafe" by the B.C. Dam Safety Section without an extensive and expensive study of the century old structures.
The first consideration is obviously safety of people and the second should be safety of municipal taxpayer dollars. How far into the hole do we have to go for this fiasco? If this thing continues to drag on, we need to have the foot-draggers held responsible for any liabilities that occur, not us taxpayers.
Time to move on.
