TORONTO - A chef from Germany beat the competition to take the award at the recent International Jeunes Chefs Competition.
The gold medal winner was Jan-Philipp Berner of Germany's Gourmetrestaurant Lerbach.
In second place was Sweden's Jimmi Eriksson of Pontus!, while Yusuf Kizilirmak of Le Meridien Istanbul Etiler in Turkey took the bronze medal.
Canada's entry, 25-year-old Brenan Madill, executive sous chef of Seasons by Atlantica in Halifax, finished out of the top three.
The 37th edition of the competition, held in Istanbul, Turkey, featured 20 young chefs from around the world.
The Jeune Chef Rotisseurs International Competition is put on annually by Chaine des Rotisseurs, an international gastronomic society with members in more than 75 countries devoted to promoting fine dining. It's a chance for chefs up to age 27 with less than five years professional experience to showcase their talents and creativity in an international arena.
