Re: 'Fast ferry inches closer,' Daily News, August 21, 2013 Saying financing is the last hurdle before the fast ferry project moves to the next phase is bizarre. Isn't money the very first thing you need? And with the Federation of
Canadian Municipalities not handing-over any 'green funding' and ferry investors seeking cash elsewhere how can the Nanaimo Economic Development Corporation say "It's close?" Seems more like the vessel is standing still in the water waiting for a bail-out. Perhaps the Island Ferries group can squeeze money out of the city, which everyone else seems to be easily doing.
A fast ferry from Nanaimo to Vancouver is probably one of the best things our tax money could be used for. Everyone in the city could benefit from the quick boat - not just a few groups who constantly line-up at council and get all the funding they want for their own self-fulfilling interests.
