STRATFORD, Ont. - Dianne Jacob, a writing coach, editor and author, has been chosen as writer-in-residence at Stratford Chefs School.
She'll take up her post as the seventh Joseph Hoare Gastronomic Writer in Residence for the 2013-2014 school year, the school announced in a release.
Jacob has had a long career as editor and writer for Canadian newspapers and American international magazines. She has freelanced for Gastronomica magazine, Salon.com and Writer's Digest, and co-authored the cookbook "Grilled Pizzas and Piadinas" with chef Craig Priebe.
Students will make use of her book "Will Write For Food," which won the 2005 Cordon d'Or Literary Award and the 2007 Gourmand World Cookbook Award. Jacob was also a finalist for the 2007 IACP Bert Greene Award.
She will conduct a one-day writing workshop in Toronto on Nov. 23. To register or for more information, contact the Stratford Chefs School at 519-271-1414.
Jacob lived in her birthplace of Vancouver until moving to California in 1977. Her last job in Canada was as editor of a Vancouver restaurant magazine.
Previous gastronomic writers in residence include columnist and author James Chatto, writer Corby Kummer, Australian academic and author Michael Symons, journalist and author Ian Brown, author and blogger Clotilde Dusoulier and James Oseland, editor-in-chief of American culinary magazine Saveur.
The Stratford Chefs School writer-in-residence program is named after Hoare, a former food editor of Toronto Life magazine who died in 1997.
