Eighteen Nanaimo-area artists are holding a fine art show this weekend in the hopes that you will pick up one of the works for a yuletide gift.
The 'Deck the Walls' event runs today, 1-7 p.m. at the Moose Hall, and runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The shows this weekend are open, not juried, like the spring show sponsored by the Nanaimo chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists. Unlike the
jury show, the event allows artisans who make jewelry or crafts to display their work too.
"There's a lot more variety," said Nanaimo artist Helen Webster. "It's more inclusive of a broader range of artists."
If you go to the show, Webster
said to be on the lookout for an array of smaller art pieces to grab the attention of early Christmas shoppers.
For added appeal, Webster says artists will likely offer up a host of smaller-sized paintings and art to appeal to potential buyers.
The vast majority of the work will be original, added Webster. "And there's nothing quite like an original."
Other artists taking part in the show include Webster's daughter Lisa Danesin and Gabriola Island artist Harold Allanson.
