HALIFAX - The mayor of Halifax has joined many of his fellow residents in protesting American R&B artist Chris Brown being invited to headline a local concert.
Mike Savage says the idea of someone like Brown performing in Halifax makes him sick.
Brown was convicted for assault following a vicious attack in 2009 on his then-girlfriend, superstar Rihanna.
He is scheduled to play at Energy Rush 2013 on Aug. 31 at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth.
Telecom giant Rogers pulled its sponsorship of the event shortly after learning of the lineup decision on Saturday.
But despite the angry outcry, concert organizers say the event will continue as planned, including Brown's performance.
An online petition registered Saturday morning and calling on the city to remove the artist from the concert lineup had over 500 supporters as of 1 p.m. Sunday.
