Artists and photographers are gearing up for the 2013 'Heritage Paint Out Shoot Out' event on Sunday, which will allow artists and photographers the chance to compete to best capture one of the city's heritage buildings and win a prize to boot.
Participants will meet at Nanaimo Museum at 10 a.m. on Sunday and draw a randomly selected heritage building located within the city.
They will have until 3 p.m. that day to paint and photograph and capture the essence of their assigned building and location.
First prize is $125, second is $75 and the third-place entrant gets $50.
The contest first began in 1999 out of the Nanaimo Art Gallery, and was later adopted by the NAC, which in turns partners with the museum and the city's community heritage commission to host the event. The competition is open to the public and pre-registration is encouraged. Cost to enter is $10 for Nanaimo Arts Council Members and $12 for non-members.
Registration forms can be found online at nanaimoartscouncil.ca.
