WINNIPEG - Legumex Walker Inc. (TSX: LWP) says it recorded a second-quarter net loss of $8.7 million compared with a profit of $250,000 a year ago.
The net loss equals to 53 cents per share, compared to a profit of two cents per share during the same quarter last year.
Revenue grew 64 per cent to $112.1 million compared with $68.5 million last year.
The company said its oilseed processing segment lost $3.2 million during the quarter because its Pacific Coast Canola plant was still in the commissioning phase. That was partially offset by increased volumes and margins from its sunflower, flax and bird food sales.
The company also saw a $1 million decrease in its special crops segment because it margins for edible beans were smaller compared to the second quarter of 2012.
Legumex Walker is a processor and merchandiser of pulses and other special crops and canola products, with 11 processing facilities in key growing regions in the Prairie provinces, the U.S. Midwest and China.
