ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The head of the Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association says a move by Gray Aquaculture to file for bankruptcy protection is indicative of a slight downturn in the industry.
However, Cyr Couturier says he's confident the overall industry will remain strong in the province.
Couturier says Gray represents about 10 to 15 per cent of the province's overall salmon production.
The company took a financial hit after a number of recent cases of Infectious Salmon Anemia forced it to destroy its stocks.
Couturier says there will be a downturn in the overall output of farmed salmon this year and next.
He says production this year should be in the range of 20 to 25 thousand tonnes.
