I attended the school board meeting on Wednesday night at NDSS and was very impressed by the two presenters from Save Cedar Schools.
Their diligence in getting the information correct and the unwavering devotion to advocating for their children is admirable. It is inconceivable that SD68 is making an effort to sell their community on the idea that the facilities' plan is really in their best interests.
Why would anyone believe this? Ripping the heart out of the community by having all of the high school youth bused elsewhere and pushing all of the elementary kids into one school is a poor plan. It is neither fiscally or morally defensible.
Give these parents some credit for knowing what makes sense for their families.
Ignoring them by not attending the community meeting on Monday (to his credit, Bill Bard did show for a few minutes) and attempting to limit their time to speak to the issue last night, is a tremendous insult.
To add fuel to the fire, the chairman continually harped on the imminent danger of the Colliery Dams to the safety of children attending Barsby.
The city is attempting to get away from the "the world is ending because of the dams" and to begin working towards solutions.
Returning to scare-mongering and adamant statements that the "dams have to go" is both unhelpful and silly.
It is unsupportive of the community, Snuneymuxw and the city's concerted efforts.
As always, the CDPPS is wanting to work towards viable solutions and do not wish to have a proper process undermined.
