Gabriola Island transit users can now take their dogs and cats with them on the bus.
A trial started last week on mid-day runs on buses operated by the Gabriola Environmentally Responsible Trans-Island Express community bus system, otherwise known as GERTIE.
Users asked for permission to transport pets on buses service shortly after the system first started operating, in June.
Not everyone is comfortable with having pets on buses.
The challenge for operators is to balance pet owners' needs with those of others who don't appreciate animals on the bus. Nanaimo Regional Transit has no plans to follow suit.
