Mounties are warning motorcyclists to slow down after two accidents over the long weekend left a 34-year-old Nanaimo man dead and another in hospital with serious injuries.
According to police, a man driving a white Yamaha motorcycle was travelling down Stewart Avenue around 9:25 p.m. Sunday when he struck a Jeep turning from Townsite Road.
RCMP say the driver of the Jeep, a 61-year-old Nanaimo man, was stopped at a stop sign and apparently did not appear to see the motorcyclist as he turned.
The motorcyclist was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Mounties say both speed and alcohol were factors in the collision.
On Monday morning, a motorcyclist ran into the back of a truck and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
No names of any of the people involved in either incident have been released by police.
