Three local musical superstars, Scott Brown from Trooper, Murray Atkinson from the Odds, and Todd Sacerty from Almost Johnny Cash, will be coaching kids with their music at the end of the month at Headliners School for Performing Arts ... Two Nanaimo artists are being featured this month at The Vault coffee house downtown. Kami Stein has just hung her first show of mixed media works entitled Floral Motifs, Designs and Patterns, and longtime fabric artist Miriam Dov's two-and three-dimensional pieces are also now on display ... Director Joanne Rowland is working hard with the Yellow Point Drama Group to get their new production ready for the stage. Roland is leading rehearsals for Seeing Stars in Dixie which runs at the Cedar Community Hall from Oct. 3-19. Busy running throught their lines and stage actions with Roland now are Pat Zogar, Evelyn Appelin, Inge Cathers, Tabitha Jasper, Michael Robinson and Crystal Cathers. Michael Olson is the new executive director at the Vancouver Island University student's union, and has had a busy couple of weeks learning the ropes from long-time former director Steve Beasley, who has held the position for nine years ... Nanaimo's Logan Mundy recently celebrated his fifth birthday by asking people to give a donation to the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital instead of giving him a gift. He was inspired by his brother Ryan who turned eight in July and did the same thing. The two raised $140 for the hospital's pediatric unit.
Nanaimo student Kennedy Baker recently hosted a charity picnic that saw more than 450 needy people treated to a free lunch. Carey McIver is stepping down as RDN solid waste manager after 24 years in the position. McIver is retiring ... Carla Samson, owner of Quintessentials women's clothing store on Commercial Street, is having a baby this fall. It's not the only new arrival in Samson's world. She's also branching out into baby wear, with word she'll soon be opening her newest shop, Q Baby.

First-time grandparents Yves Gregoire and Maggie Wouterloot have announced the birth of Kyien Carter O'Neill Wouterloot, born in Nanaimo on Sept. 11 to Vinny Wouterloot and Rene Towle. Other grandparents sharing the pleasure are Steve Towle and Deborah Jackson. Kyien has, in all, six grandmas/great grandmas and four grandpas/great grandpas.
