With the hot dry weather of summer soon to be replaced by cooler days and evenings, a ban on open fires has been lifted.
Backyard burning or debris burning is again allowed in coastal B.C. forests.
Rural residents can again light small debris fires, and use burn barrels, fireworks and sky lanterns.
The change affects all B.C. Parks, Crown and private lands, but does not apply within municipal boundaries with fire prevention bylaws. The city of Nanaimo only allows backyard burning by permit, in November and April. Cooking fires are allowed.
